British Airways plans to get about 90 percent of its flights off the ground today at London Heathrow airport as the carrier recovers from a second walkout by cabin crew that ended at midnight.

The airline, canceled 31 of 319 flights from Heathrow today, according to its Web site. British Airways scrapped hundreds of trips when flight attendants followed a three-day strike with a four-day stoppage. The carrier faces the threat of more walkouts in April if it can’t resolve pay and staffing differences with 12,000 workers.
The dispute comes as transportation workers in Germany, France and the U.K. gear up for strikes. Lufthansa pilots may walk out for four days starting April 13 if they don’t reach agreement on conditions. Network Rail workers may disrupt U.K. train travel in a strike scheduled for April 6, and drivers at French railway SNCF may walk off the same day. Click here for BA updates. Today is third day of BA strike

A strike by British Airways cabin crew entered its third day today with more walkouts threatened by the Unite union for next month.

More than 120 BA flights from London's Heathrow airport were cancelled on Monday, according to the BA website, but all flights to and from London City and London Gatwick airports were operating normally.
The walkout by BA cabin crew is the second this month in a dispute over changes to working practices which has cost the airline millions of pounds and damaged its reputation.

No BA-Union Talks, Strike To Go Ahead Tomorrow

The Unite union said British Airways cabin crew's four-day strike would go ahead, no peace talks were set for today and strikes are set to begin again on Saturday . Causing more travel chaos before the busy Easter holiday period.

BA put a proposal forward last Friday, which it said could form the basis of an agreement, but has since refused to put the initial offer back on the negotiating table or reinstate travel perks it has taken away from strikers.
Earlier on today BA's chief executive Willie Walsh said he was ready to meet unions to discuss a dispute with cabin crew but had no plans to do so before the new strike begins. BA says they will fly 75% of their flights during this strike period.

British Airways Strike Enters Third Day

British Airways and the union representing its 12,000 cabin crew are no closer to resolving a dispute on pay and staffing levels as a strike at the airline enters its third day.
BA said it flew almost 100,000 passengers over the weekend even after grounding hundreds of flights at its Heathrow main hub. The Unite union that represents cabin crew said only a “small minority” of cabin crew broke the walkout.
Unite General Secretary Tony Woodley, in an open letter to flight attendants, appealed to British Airways Chairman Martin Broughton to step in and help resolve the dispute. The weekend strike, the first for London-based BA since 1997, took place after Woodley’s talks with Chief Executive Officer Willie Walsh collapsed March 19.

British Airways Cabin Crew Trying to Avert Weekend Strike 3/19/2010

British Airways and the Unite union have resumed talks to try to avert a weekend strike by cabin crew that would embarrass the ruling Labour government weeks before an election.
"We're at least talking. That's the good news, but at the moment there's only talks and certainly no breakthrough and no acceptable way forward for us but I'm still hopeful and optimistic and that's why I'm going back (for more talks)," Unite joint general-secretary Tony Woodley said.
Woodley also said cabin crew would call off the planned seven-day strike if management reinstated an offer which was withdrawn last week.
The dispute centres around cost-saving and specifically a reduction in the number of cabin crew staff on long-haul flights.

British Airways Cabin Crew Strike Updates

UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown said on Wednesday he believed a deal was still possible to prevent a planned British Airways cabin crew strike at the weekend.
Officials from the Unite union will meet representatives of the powerful US Teamsters union, which has 1.4 million members, for talks in Washington today. The British Airline Pilots Association, BALPA, said it would maintain a neutral stance in the dispute and that its members would work normally.
As a contingency measure, BA has trained staff from other areas of the company to fill in as cabin crew during the action, with plans to fly around 60 percent of customers booked for the March 20-22 period.
It said in a statement on Wednesday that growing numbers of cabin crew were volunteering to work normally and that over 60 other airlines had offered to help with charters or spare seats.
